In 2016, after 6 months of a raw vegan diet, my body began shutting down. My sleep was disrupted, my gut was a mess, my memory was failing and not a single doctor or specialist I saw could pinpoint what was wrong with me. Finally, I found a nutritionist that was able to start me on a path back to recovering my health. Along that path and through that process, I discovered how much of a holistic system the human body really is from sleep quality to gut health, from nutrient absorption to brain function. In order to address a symptom of inflammation in one area there are often imbalances across several others that also need attention. Without being overly prescriptive, this book is my attempt to share the acquired knowledge and hard-earned wisdom of that journey with you in hopes that you can be proactive with your own health and well-being. Take what makes sense and disregard what does not serve you in your journey. Nothing presented here is overly controversial or cutting-edge, but when approached as a larger framework for understanding what optimal function looks and feels like, these tenets help build a strong foundation for long-term health and vitality that anyone can approach regardless of age, gender, fitness level, or spiritual inclination. The truth is, I know too many people that should be in the prime of their lives who are instead dealing with or succumbing to health issues from auto-immune diseases and cancer to diabetes and obesity when these are all largely avoidable conditions if we approach maintaining our physical body as a multi-faceted and interconnected system that is constantly providing signals and status reports. I hope this book can be a gentle reminder of all the ways that we can listen to and take better care of our bodies every day. I’m grateful for the health challenges I faced over the last decade as they have brought me to a much greater understanding of my body, how it works, and what it needs to thrive. And I’m grateful that out of that struggle, this book was born. May you always travel the path of least resistance, |
